Professor Jun Shen

Professor Jun Shen is an accomplished researcher whose work spans various disciplines, including computational intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, and data science. Their expertise extends to a wide array of fields, from applying AI in education, bioinformatics, and intelligent transport to digital health, aged care, arts, human resources, supply chain management, media, and regional communities.

With a rich history of involvement in funded projects, including support from ARC/CRC, NSFC, and UGPN, among others, Professor Shen consistently tackles real-life challenges with innovative solutions. Their dedication to advancing knowledge is evident in their numerous academic pursuits, including collaborations with top institutions like MIT, UCI, and GaTech. Additionally, they contribute to the academic community by editing journals and chairing conferences.

Within the academic realm, Professor Shen has supervised 20 Ph.D. candidates to successful completion and continues to guide and mentor 5-8 new Ph.D. students annually. Their contributions to academia and research make them a valued member of the University of Wollongong, where they currently hold the position of Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, specifically within the School of Computing and Information Technology.

Professor Shen earned their Ph.D. from Southeast University in Nanjing, China, and holds the esteemed certification of Senior Member with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). They are proficient in multiple languages, including English, Chinese (Mandarin), French, and Japanese.

Professor Shen’s research primarily focuses on information systems, software engineering, applications in social sciences and education, collaborative and social computing, and evolutionary computation. Their commitment to interdisciplinary work and extensive contributions to various fields showcase their dedication to advancing knowledge and solving complex problems.
